Think of all that goes into taking learning personally at Elgin Academy.
Living our commitment to active learning.
At Elgin Academy, we don’t teach through lectures or slides that can be repurposed year after year. Instead, teachers, administrators, and support staff work together to coordinate interactive projects and student presentations and demonstrations that bring ideas to life and cement concepts in students’ minds.
Hiring and developing the finest educators.
Elgin Academy teachers are scholars themselves—70% hold advanced degrees—whose own intellectual enthusiasm inspires our students. They’re experienced—our average length of tenure is 20 years. And they’re constantly seeking to improve through professional development opportunities.
Extending the EA experience to best-fit families.
We draw from a range of zip codes throughout greater Chicagoland to bring together a diverse mix of backgrounds and beliefs. And we extend financial assistance to families who belong at Elgin Academy but can’t quite afford full tuition.
Elgin Academy has evolved tremendously since our 1839 founding as the first nonsectarian, co-ed, college-prep school west of the Alleghenies. Through those 175 years, we’ve maintained a school culture defined by our generosity toward one another, by the transformative power of trusted relationships, and by taking learning not just seriously, but personally.
That’s a legacy worth preserving. And building on. You can do your part to support by choosing your way to give.
