Important Notes
New Start Date for some UPPER SCHOOL practices:
The IHSA has approved a new fall start date for Girls Tennis, Cross Country, and Girls Volleyball. It will now coincide with the other IHSA sport start for Boys Soccer and Golf, which is Wednesday August 13, 2008. This will simplify things for some families, but we realize that this announcement may be too late for some of you to change your plans. If this is the case, please just send an email to kross@elginacademy.org. We will be keeping formal attendance from the originally posted start date not the new one.

Upper School PE Requirement Changes

Starting with the Fall 2006 Freshmen Class, the format for earning PE credits toward graduation changed.

1. A total of six seasons (equaling 2 credits) are required for graduation - (this did not change).

2. These credits will be accumulated through participation on EA sports teams as follows (minimum requirements):
9th Grade: 2 seasons
10th Grade: 2 seasons or 1.5 if choosing PE Class in the winter
11th Grade: 1 season or 1.5 if choosing PE Class in the winter
12th Grade: 1 season

3. Students may only take the PE class as sophomores or juniors, and it will count as half of a season.

4. Students must accumulate 5 seasons by the end of their junior year.

5 Students may accumulate 5 seasons through independent studies in sports with the appropriate application, approval, and documentation, but need to play on at least one school team in their freshman or sophomore year.

6. The classes of 2008 and 2009 can meet their requirements by completing the 6 seasons by the end of their junior years.

  • Students are required to have proper athletic clothing for practices. Sport specific shoes, athletic shorts, and t-shirts. Sweatpants and sweatshirts should be brought on cooler days.
  • The soccer, field hockey, tennis, and track and field teams practice at EA's Athletic Fields on 658 Franklin Blvd., Elgin.
  • The golf team practices at Wing Park, 1000 Wing St., Elgin.
  • The basketball and volleyball teams practice in the EA gym and The Centre of Elgin.

US Game Day Procedures

  • Your son or daughter will be transported to the game site from school (home and away games)
  • The games last approximately 90 minutes.
  • JV games will be shorter if played after a Varsity game on the same day (due to lack of sunlight)
  • If you wish to drive your son or daughter to the game and/or drive him/her home from away games please inform the coach.
  • Home tennis, soccer and field hockey games are played at the Hammond Fields (658 Franklin Blvd).
  • Home golf matches are played at Wing Park, 1000 Wing Rd., Elgin.
  • Home basketball games are played in the EA gym.
  • After home games, you must pick up your son or daughter from the game sites.
  • Your son or daughter will be driven back to school from away games and must be picked-up in front of Edwards Hall (the Upper School building). The time for the return trip is usually between 1 and 1.5 hours.
  • Away games usually finish around 7:30 pm when there are V and JV games played back to back, around 6:00 pm when there is just one game or both games are played at the same time.
  • The coach will determine if the team will be stopping to get something to eat on the way home. Your son or daughter will be notified the day before the game if that is the case. If not, please send something for your son or daughter to eat after the game. A snack before the game is also advisable.
  • Travel times out of Chicago vary greatly and sometimes games start late. The coach will call the answering service (847) 695-0300 when the team is about 45 minutes away from EA. You may then call the answering service to find out a more accurate arrival time.
