Elgin Academy Varsity Field Hockey Team Wins Regional Opener
On what was a cold and dreary day, the Elgin Academy Varsity field hockey brought fire and excitement to the field. Having earned first round advantage based on their season play, they played with passion and intensity in front of a large home crowd. The first half ended with a 0-0 tie. 15 minutes into the second half, Annabelle Heisley scores the first point for Elgin Academy. Antioch answered with a score of their own from a long post pass to tie the score at 1-1. However, with a little over 5 minutes remaining, Melissa Trudrung hit a nice strike to put Elgin Academy up 2-1 and seal the win. Coach Jeff Swegler stated, "I was not worried. I didn't believe Antioch could beat us in regular time and was only questioning if we could get a second goal in time. We did (though) they tested us with several attacks in the remaining minutes".
Elgin Academy will face Lake Forest High School tonight at 6:30PM at LFHS for a chance to move to the semifinals.
