Arts
A strong Liberal Arts tradition includes study in the Fine Arts. A unique aspect of the EA curriculum is the required ninth grade course Introduction to Fine Arts. This two-semester course introduces students to both the history and practical aspects of music, theatre, and visual arts. Students choose from two of the following options: Visual Art, Theater, Introduction to Chorus, or Music Theory.
The course provides some students with an opportunity to expand on or broaden a previous area of expertise, while others will be in the initial phases of creative discovery. Students are required to take one additional course in the Arts before graduation choosing from such options as ceramics, chorus, drawing, painting, photography, and others. For all students the Introduction to Fine Arts provides a basis for higher level courses, and for including the Arts in their lives.
In addition to the curricular elements offered, the opportunity for significant co-curricular participation is open to every student. Chorus and Theatre provide strong performance-based learning. The opportunities for student leadership in these areas come from ensemble and competition work in music, and our chapter of the International Thespian Society.
