Elgin Academy Athletics

Elgin Academy strives to create an athletic atmosphere that plays a significant role in shaping the character, integrity, and sportsmanship of all student-athletes. The Athletic Department’s mission is to provide an athletic opportunity for each of our student athletes and teams in order to be competitive in interscholastic sports. This is achieved through:

  1. Developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes (respect, sportsmanship, competitive spirit, self-discipline, passion, leadership), and teamwork (cooperation, trust, friendship) necessary for the students to have a positive experience, to achieve their fullest potential, to strive for success, to be confident about their place in the world, and proudly represent Elgin Academy on the athletic field.
  2. Stressing a proactive partnership of coaches, faculty, parents, and students.
  3. Being an integral part of the educational program stressing honesty, respect, fairness, and accepting of diversity.

Elgin Academy is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) which sets interscholastic program guidelines and organizes all varsity state tournaments. We also belong to the Independent School League (ISL), and compete against member schools in a variety of sports through conference play. On the Middle School level, we field soccer, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, and baseball teams. Our Upper School fields over 15 teams, offering soccer, tennis, basketball, track and field, cross country, field hockey, golf, and volleyball.

Elgin Academy aims to provide an experience that allows student athletes to learn and flourish in the sports of their choice. Participation in athletics at the Middle School level is strongly encouraged but voluntary. All Upper School students are required to participate in at least six seasons of athletic competition over the course of their four years in order to graduate. Elgin Academy also offers Independent PE study credits, which allow students to participate in sports that Elgin Academy does not offer. For more information on the Independent PE Study program, or to learn more about Elgin Academy Athletics, please contact the Athletic Department at 847-695-0309, ext. 222.
