Admission Process

Admission Application Deadline Guide: Elgin Academy utilizes “rolling admissions” which means we continue to accept applications as long as space is available in our classrooms. Enrollment for Fall 2013 is based upon availability.  That being said, we strongly urge you to begin the admission application process one year in advance to allow sufficient time to process all necessary paperwork as well as providing you with the best chance for an opening in your desired grade level.

Forms to be downloaded are listed below by grade.

EARLY CHILDHOOD (3 & 4 year olds)

Preschool and Prekindergarten

1. Complete application, submit with $50 fee (check or money order made payable to Elgin Academy) [PS and PK Application]
   Please note: PS candidates should be 3-yrs-old by 9/1 and PK candidates should be 4-yrs-old by 9/1.
2. Register for one of these two special Saturday Screening Open Houses:
   - Saturday, January 26, 2013
   - Saturday, February 23, 2013
   - NOTE: Completed application and $50 application fee must be sent in advance or brought to these events.
   - Programs include a special information session for parents and a screening/class visit for the student.
3. AFTER MARCH 1: Applications will be accepted on a space-available basis. Please call Admissions to schedule your student's class visit (8:30-10:00 a.m.) and your parent tour (approx. 1 hour while student is visiting class)
4. Admission Office will notify parents of admit/deny status after review of student's visit results.

LOWER SCHOOL (Grades K-4)

1. Complete application, submit with $50 fee (check or money order made payable to Elgin Academy) 
   [LS Application (Grades K-4) --> includes Teacher Recommendation Form and Release of Records Form]
2. Kindergarten: Schedule student's class visit/screening (8:30-11:00 a.m.)
3. Grades 1-4: Schedule student's class visit/screening (full school day; 8:15 a.m.-2:45 p.m.) and parent tour (approx. 1 hour)
4. Submit one Teacher Recommendation Form from current teacher
5. Submit copy of report cards for two most recent academic years 
6. Admission Office will notify parents of admit/deny status after review of student's completed file.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (Grades 5-8)
UPPER SCHOOL (Grades 9-12)

1. Complete application including student essay, submit with $50 fee (check or money order made payable to Elgin Academy) 
   [MS-US Application (Grades 5-12) --> includes both Teacher Recommendation Forms and Release of Records Form]
2. Schedule student's Shadow Visit (full school day; 8:15 a.m.-2:45 p.m.) and parent tour (approx. 1 hour)
3. Submit two Teacher Recommendation Forms (Math and English teachers)
4. Submit copy of report cards/transcripts for two most recent academic years
5. Schedule Entrance Exam 847.695.0303
6. Admission Office will notify parents of admit/deny status after review of student's completed file.
