What is athletic development?
Athletic Development is best described as individuals or teams reaching their optimal performance through three key principals: working hard, having fun and getting better!
How do sports and athletes help build school spirit?
In medieval times when armies would go to war they would carry their banner representing their faction so everyone knew who and what they represented. Today, sports and the athletes involved carry the banners for their school! By playing hard, having fun and getting better we let everyone know what it means to be a Hilltopper!
How do athletics reinforce what students are learning in the classroom?
Due to the nature of school it can take time for a student to really feel the return on their investment and commitment to the classroom. Sports have a way of providing instant feedback for a student. Hard work pays off. If you fall down, get back up. Embracing challenges is rewarding regardless of outcome. These are all lessons learned from practice to practice, game to game and play to play!
What is the most fulfilling part of being the Athletic Director at Elgin Academy?
I get to work with everybody! In just a few short months I have established relationships with teachers, faculty members, adjunct coaches, parents, administrators, and best of all the athletes themselves!
