Our annual gala and auction celebrates and supports our rich history in the community, our continued academic excellence, our outstanding faculty, and the personal learning experienced by our students. Congratulations to Elgin Academy seventh grader Akhil P. who won the Middle School Spelling Bee. Akhil correctly spelled the word "declivity" in round 32 to become the winner. Akhil will now advance to the Kane County Semifinals on February 8th. Congratulations again to Akhil and to all of the Middle School students who participated in the Spelling Bee.
January Term 2023 drew to a spectacular close with the J-term Symposium on January 27th Guests were able to ask students questions, and view photography, needlework, class projects, videos, and more. Students presented information about these dynamic courses that create memorable experiences for Elgin Academy students each year. The following J-term classes were represented at the symposium:

In celebration of the Chinese New Year Katie Kruse, Director of International Studies, welcomed Elgin Academy international students and their host families to a joyous celebration of food and friends. Thanks to Ms. Kruse for planning this wonderful event and Yu's Mandarin Restaurant in Schaumburg for the delicious traditional Chinese dishes.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Valeria Saavedra to our faculty. Ms. Saavedra will be teaching Upper School videography starting on Monday, January 23rd. Val holds a B.A. in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago. Her background includes both coursework and practical experience in digital storytelling and video production as well as significant work with students. She is excited to begin working with our Upper School videography classes as they begin the second semester.
