The Elgin Academy Hilltop Program is an optional independent study program for seniors during which they develop an essential question, determine the mentors and resources necessary to explore and address that query, and present their conclusions to the community.
This year, five seniors are engaged in the Hilltop program. Those seniors and their essential questions are:
- Naomi Grigsby-Bailey: What are the challenges in youth who have mental health disorders?
- Kate Kihnke: How do filmmakers effectively use cinematography to evoke emotions in an audience?
- Jeremiah Walker: How does photography impact our daily life?
- Barrett Wilcox: How do the major organs and systems of the human body keep us alive?
- Tayten Wilder: Why is physical therapy so important for peak athletic performance?
The EA community is invited to this year’s Hilltop Presentations event on Thursday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rider Center 4th-floor Commons. On that evening, each of these seniors will make a presentation regarding their Hilltop experience.

The time has come for us to say our final goodbyes to Elgin Academy, and more importantly, to celebrate all that this beloved school has meant to so many people for such a long time. Please join us on Saturday, May 25th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. under the huge tent on the campus lawn. Enjoy an afternoon of reminiscing, visiting well-remembered campus spots, and renewing relationships that were all part of your time here on the hill as we honor both the Academy's unique history and its remarkable legacy. There will be a brief program starting at 1:00 p.m. with lunch to follow and the rest of the afternoon to visit our permanent history exhibit in Old Main, participate in some activities, take a tour, or just sit and talk with people you haven't seen for a while. Whether you are an alum, a current or past parent, a current or past faculty/staff member, a current student, or just a friend of the Academy, we would love to see you. Come for a little while, or stay all afternoon. We are excited to gather our whole school community one last time. In the words of the EA hymn, we plan to raise our colors high . . . Long Live Academy!
We are collecting memories of Elgin Academy to share at the Legacy Celebration. Please take a few moments to send us yours. Share a story
