Summer Athletic Camps

Elgin Academy’s summer Athletic Program strives to create an athletic atmosphere that plays a significant role in shaping the character, integrity, and sportsmanship of all student-athletes. EA’s coaches and instructors will focus on developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes (respect, sportsmanship, competitive spirit, self-discipline, passion, leadership) and teamwork (cooperation, trust, friendship) necessary for the students to have a positive athletic experience and be confident on the athletic field.

Morning, afternoon, and evening Extended Care is available for Athletic program participants.

Tennis Skills and Drills (Grades 5-12)

Tennis Skills and Drills

Tennis Skills and Drills camp will focus on the essentials for becoming a better tennis player. Athletes will improve their fundamentals of serving, volleying, and ground strokes. Each day will start with stretching to promote safety and campers should bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Campers should wear proper tennis shoes and bring their own racket.

Tennis

Instructor: Sterling Perez, Varsity Head Coach For US Boys and Girls Tennis

Sterling has a passion for tennis and has played Varsity Tennis at Larkin High School. He also played Tennis for Elgin Community College while pursuing an architecture/CAD major. Additionally, Sterling worked as a Tennis Instructor for two years at Elgin Country Club. Teaching Tennis has been more than a sport to him, it has become more then a job to him, it has become a privilege! Throughout his first year as Head Coach during the Fall Season, he realized each and every day that it was a blessing to be out there getting them acclimated to bettering their game, having fun while doing it, and always challenging each other while also challenging yourself! This camp will do all these things and more!! This camp is for the sole purpose of learning while also having fun while doing so!

Sports Camp is a week-long experience in which students participate in a new sport every day. During the first hour, an introduction to the game, basic fundamentals and rules will be taught. Craig Pinson is Elgin Academy's PE teacher and Assistant Athletic Director. In addition, Craig also coaches basketball and baseball at EA. He has 7years teaching experience both in Illinois and Arizona.  In addition to teaching, Craig has been a baseball coach at the middle school, high school, and collegiate level.  He even spent the summer of 2016 leading the Chicago Cubs Youth Baseball Camps!

Lower School Co-ed Field Hockey Camp

Lower School Field Hockey camp will be a week-long exploration into the fun of Field Hockey. Girls and boys will participate in games and activities designed to familiarize them with the sport of field hockey. Using youth equipment, games will be simple, safe, and fun. Campers will have the special opportunity to learn from EA’s Varsity coaching staff, alumni, and current EA Field Hockey players. Along with the games, campers can participate in themed dress-up days (ex. USA day, color day, EA spirit day). With the curriculum designed by the EA coaching staff, the camp will be partnering with USA Field Hockey. This partnership will provide exclusive USA Field Hockey gear and curriculum for lower school campers. The campers will celebrate this fun filled week at a closing game with EA Alumni on Friday June 28th.

This coed camp prepares middle school players of all levels to learn the correct form and technique of volleyball. Campers will learn proper passing, setting, attacking, and serving. Fundamentals and court knowledge will be taught through instructional drills and game-like situations. Athletes of all levels will be challenged to improve their skills and sportsmanship. Both boys and girls are welcome to attend this camp and get a jump start on their season.

Maegan has been Elgin Academy’s Middle School Girls Volleyball Coach for three years. She has seven years of experience running volleyball camps and nine years of experience as a player. Maegan strives to help every athlete learn to play to the best of their ability. Her coaching style promotes positive reinforcement because Maegan believes that it motivates her players to do their best.

Dawn has been the US Varsity Girls Head Volleyball Coach at Elgin Academy for five years. She has been coaching for 15 years including club volleyball for the last seven years. Her resume is extensive and includes experience with both boys’ and girls’ teams, private instruction, and summer camp instruction. Dawn is IMPACT certified and trained under IHSA/USA to officiate volleyball. She is very passionate about the sport of volleyball and is an advocate for teaching good nutritional values to athletes.

This coed volleyball camp will prepare all levels of players to compete at a higher level by building on fundamentals.
