3rd Grade Kelp Lession

Recently, Ms. Boborci's third graders read an article all about kelp in their Time for Kids magazine. Madigan Boborci ('19) who is a second year marine biology major at UCSB was kind enough to harvest some kelp and give the students a first hand lesson on its importance in the temperate waters off the coast of Santa Barbara. She was even able to point out Santa Cruz Island, the spot that was featured in the magazine! It's so great when our alums come back to share their knowledge with current EA students!

Veteran's Day via Zoom
Mrs. Stemn's 2nd Grade welcomed two veterans to their class on this Veteran's Day via Zoom to say thank you for their service! One was second grade student Jacob's Great Uncle Morris, and the other was Commander Echevarria from the Elgin Police Department. The students and veterans said the Pledge of Allegiance together and then the guests shared their experience with the students.
The students also made cards to be given out to veterans through Applebee’s restaurant again this year! The local Applebees is doing curbside pickup for veterans to receive their free meal. Each veteran who orders curbside will have a card of thanks inside their bag from EA second graders. Thank you veterans for your service!!

Environmental Club Collects seeds

Elgin Academy Seniors and members of our Environmental Club Vansh, Nguyen, and Charlene joined by EA Biology teacher, Bud Mathieu enjoyed Saturday's beautiful weather while harvesting prairie aster seeds. The seeds are then planted in nearby prairies to further the restoration. The EA group had joined in with members of the Citizens for Conservation, a non-profit organization in Barrington whose main mission is to restore several hundred acres of donated land back to natural conditions. Great job!
