Congratulations to Tommy Guyett, Johnathan Vogt and Krish Patel for their performance at the National History Bee Finals competition in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend. Tommy placed 14th and Johnathan placed 26th overall out of 380 eighth-graders! Krish made it to the 2nd round of 7th grade competition. We are very proud of all three of the boys and the outstanding way they represented Elgin Academy!
In a program filled with song, our Preschool through fourth-grade students concluded their year with a special program in the gym. The fourth-graders chose Sail Away to Summer as the program's theme and this set the stage for grade level songs from Moana and The Little Mermaid.
The highlight of the program was the presentation of certificates to fourth-graders signifying the completion of Lower School. These students will join our Middle School next year. Fourth-grade parent Tom Guyett, Sr. shared fond memories of his son Jack's experiences in the Lower School
A ceremony was held on Monday evening, June 4th in the Kimball Street Theatre to celebrate the graduation of the eighth-grade class from Middle School. Class member Carter Woltz, whose father, aunt, brother and sister graduated from EA, addressed an audience of peers, family, and friends. While he referred to the Middle School years as challenging, he recognized that they were formative years that have prepared the Class of 2022 well for the years ahead.
We have outstanding news to share about Hilltopper Baseball! Coach Steve Shapiro has been selected Independent School League (ISL) Coach of the Year and Johnny Cruz has been selected ISL Player of the Year.
Additionally, five of the boys have been named to the ISL 1st Team All-Conference. They are: Jonathan Cruz, Ethan Hill, Colin Konicek, Ethan Plantz and Christian Rodriguez. CJ Carani and Jordan Hare made the ISL Second Team/Honorable Mention.
We wish all thirty-one of our graduates well in their future endeavors. They go forth as productive, conscientious, and mindful young people who continue to hone their understanding of world and self--a lifelong process that stands as the abiding gift of their Elgin Academy Education.
We know graduation is around the corner when the Senior Luncheon takes place. Before the pace picks up for our Seniors with final assessments, award ceremonies, Baccalaureate, and finally commencement on June 2nd, the Development Office sponsors a luncheon to celebrate the soon-to-be graduates. On Wednesday, May 16th, members of the Class of 2018 were excused from school at 11:30 a.m. for an afternoon at The Main Event in Hoffman Estates. The Seniors munched on a full-on casual lunch, and then they had the chance to enjoy state-of-the-art bowling, multi-level laser tag, gravity ropes adventure courses, billiards, video games and more. Each senior received a Hilltopper Alumni t-shirt to mark their upcoming transition to the Elgin Academy Alumni Community.
Thank you to members of the class of 2017 who joined in the fun and helped us welcome the seniors to the ranks of alumni.
